Free Consultation ▪ Sex Crime Prosecutor Experience
I am attorney Bernie McEvoy. During my 15-year career as an assistant district attorney for Davidson County, I exclusively prosecuted sex crimes for six years. I know the strategies that the DA will use and the lengths the state will go to seek a conviction. I wore their shoes.
I now use that knowledge and skill to defend clients against sexual offense charges in western Tennessee. Contact me to protect yourself if you have been charged with a sex crime or think you may be charged. Don't wait to see what will happen next.
I have experience representing clients charged with:
- Sexual assault, rape
- Sex crimes against children
- Computer sex crimes, child pornography
- Indecent exposure, lewd behavior
- Statutory rape, sex with a minor under 17
- Solicitation and prostitution
Why My Experience Makes a Difference
I have focused a large part of my criminal defense practice on defending people charged with rape and aggravated sexual assault. Even if you are acquitted of the charges against you, the damage to your reputation, your family and your standing in the community will be significant.
I know how the police investigate sex charges and how prosecutors present the evidence because I spent nearly 15 years of my legal career as an assistant district attorney. Perhaps most important, I know how judges in the different courtrooms in the Nashville area are likely to respond.
Penalties for a sexual assault conviction are harsh in Tennessee.
In addition to stiff sentences, the penalty for most rape convictions includes required listing on the sex offender registry. Some convictions mandate lifetime supervision or sex offender treatment. Parole violations after a rape conviction constitute a second felony offense. In short, the consequences are harsh.
I am well-versed in the standards required for medical and physical evidence in sexual assault cases. But I also know that community standards can be a factor in conviction and sentencing on a sex charge.
Tennessee Sex Crime Registry
Conviction on these charges may require registration for life. In some cases, I may be able to petition the court to remove you from the registry after 10 years. However, the damage will have been done; it is preferable to have an attorney who can negotiate reduced charges so that you will not be required to register.
